Thinking Of Home
24Nov06

when i think of home
i remember the goodtimes
and not a time being alone
how i wish i'm home

moments with my dear ones
funtimes with friends
if there's a chance i'll do it
will hop a flight back home

it feels good to think
my loved ones are waiting
what brings me here
is a pride on its own

surviving is one thing
but how far can one go
when you care for you loved ones
you don't think twice, you just go

when i think of home
i remember the good times
the best is all there is
just wait, for soon i'll be home

moments with my dear ones
funtimes with friends
i won't miss it when i get a chance
next thing you'll know, i'm already home

Time To Write Songs

A good sign that pinoy bands are here to make waves. The bands have agreed to produce a compilation album next year so everyone I guess are stressed up creating their originals. I'm kickstarting with two songs inspired by a new friend (Awit Ni Mikaela) and a girlfriend 10yrs ago (Her Name). These songs may not necessarily be shortlisted (either by MeshP or Mr. Brosnan?) so I'll just cross my fingers for now and write as many songs as possible.

AWIT NI MIKAELA
by G. Ordinario

gusto na kita ngunit parang me kulang pa
sa tagal ng panahong tayo'y naging magkaibigan
bakit kinailangan mong lumisan, mangibang bayan, ako'y iwan
sana'y magpropose ka na, isasagot ko 'i do' so please itanong mo na

__hindi man, di na rin ako aasa
__pagka't ako'y handa na
__hindi man, hwag nalang

gusto na kita ngunit parang me kulang pa
sa tagal ng panahong tayo'y naging magkaibigan
bakit kinailangan mong lumisan, mangibang bayan, ako'y iwan
sana'y magpropose ka na, isasagot ko 'i do' so please itanong mo na

__hindi man, di na rin ako aasa
__pagka't ako'y handa na
__hindi man, hwag nalang
__pagka't ang puso ko'y meron nang iba

di na ko aasa pang muli
kung ikaw ay babalik saka na lamang ngingiti

HER NAME
by G. Ordinario

10 years since we parted
Your face was drawn in my head
The girl who used to own my heart
Is a wallpaper in my mind once again

_I tried recalling her name
_But it was vague, its a shame
_The girl who used to own my heart
_Has a name that's now forgotten

All that is clear till now
were happy times and sweet moments
Scenes of caring, giving, loving
The hell, what's her name again?

Those days we were foolish
No worries, no other cares
Time went really fast and guess what
I still can't remember, fuck!

_I tried recalling her name
_But it was vague, its a shame
_The girl who used to own my heart
_Has a name that's now forgotten

__I knew she'll be in good hands
__And my future was unsure
__For sakes we had, we needed to
__Part ways, and never look back anymore
__It's a pact we had to endure
__Time's healed the wounds, I'm sure

Those days we were foolish
No worries, no other cares
Time went really so fast and guess what
I totally forgotten her name.

I realized theres another one saved in my palm, I wrote this song in the office today.

TAKE ME TO YOUR ROOM
by G. Ordinario

Take me to your room
Where true freedom lies
Let's break every rule
That hinders our destiny

_Any man that drinks your potion
_Receives a doze of affirmation
_A promise engraved in stone
_Doesn't mean you have to be alone

Entice me, despice me
Pour out your energies and hurt me
After you close your eyes
You will know the pain has died

__We are searching for truth
__Till then we'll realize
__Its not the forbidden fruit

A promise engraved in stone
Doesn't mean you have to be alone

BANDA FANTASTIKA @ GASHAUS

The bayanihan spirit has done wonders once again! Banda Fantastika, featuring 8-pinoy bands had a resounding success. The new bands on the block (3b, Stonecold, De Ja Blue, kernel panic) did showcased very promising performances at par with the more experienced bands (quiverpool, launchbox, backwater, mrbrosnan?, meshpotatoes).

with Launchbox at the Gashaus

It was a totally different gig experience yesterday at Gashaus. I sessioned with Launchbox, we played alternative tunes that were new to me drummingwise. I find those songs challenging as the grooves were really unusual, specially the Barbie's Cradle's "Independence Day" and Sugar Hiccup's "Womb." Really enjoyable stuff for drummers.

My Gashaus experience has cleared skepticisms my former and defunct band 'thewoohoos' had as we thought they had the worst soundsystem setup and room acoustic quality. Not at all, they had brand new Marshall amps for all the guitars, 3-piece mic with boomstands, Tama Starclassic Drumkit with Sabian cymbals (basic hihat, two crash and a ride cymbals, plus a splash and a china crash, and dual iron cobra bass kick), a rare gig treat for drummers. Based on the feedback we received from friends who watched, the soundmix was very good at the audience area. The only setback was there was no monitor speakers for the performers. I was literally deaf to the vocalists but the guitars were good enough for me to hear. Besides that, the given set was only limited to 30-mins. Each band was required to clear at least 15nos of $10-each tickets. If you were to invite friends to watch I'm sure they will feel cheated, unless if the other bands performed similar radio-friendly tunes as we did. The rest played grunge and metal (i could be bias as we left with a few more bands to perform, i guess they played heavy ones too). Ok to me as a musician, but I felt our invited friends did not appreciate the other groups.

We performed around 5:30pm, almost halfway through the 'Musicmania 2' as the event title was. Even if we were not 'in' among all the bands based on the genre that we performed, we did received good applause compared to the others as the crowd had a 30-min break from the usual riffy, grungy, heavy stuffs by the rest of the bands.

Here are some pics (youtube vids will be posted soon):

Braunchbox from left to right (above): Saluyot(session guitar), Ivan(bass guitar), Jolly(session vox), Maureen(main vox), Titan(lead guitar), Tutik(me, session drums). I'm so glad to have been invited by them. Knowing them from the first practice through the gig I felt its not difficult to get along with them (Same with the Brosnans and the Meshes). They are always on their ground and needless to make pa-cute to stand out. That's a good thing abt this group. No wonder they have been playing together for years already, gig after gig.

UST Returns To Finals After 7-Years

Although in the finals series between UST Tigers and Ateneo Blue Eagles, the latter is leading by winning game 1, this semi-final win by the Tigers is something to be remembered as they did it in style:

Who moved my cheese?

A good reading (now in audio) for someone who wants to understand why people need to make decisions and move on. Its all about positivity, nothing else. Tks for the book Doc Vlad!

Stefi was saddened by today's revelation, that one of her most loved companion is about to migrate to the land of the loonie toonie. It was difficult for her to accept at first but having explained to her the analogy of the "who moved my cheese" story, she realized that it is not too bad at all. Now she understands this could be just a short wait but soon after they will meet each other again. Godspeed!

And yeah, McDonalds has its own version as Stefi's mousepad:

Weekend Break

School break is here, we thought Stefi deserves a movie treat. At first I thought she would be scared but it turned out she loved it, even wanted to watch it over again. She's been frequenting http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/monsterhouse/international/ these days seeing scary but 'not anymore scary' stuffs. To her its all just art creations:

Afterwards we decided to dine at MS deck. Twas their first time there, I was like having lunch everyday there when I was still with DP. (thank goodness food there doesn't suck anymore):

We strolled around MS, wifey had a serious walk-work-out (expecting women needs lots of those), until its time to hit the Cathedral. After the service I thought wifey should have some more w-w-o so we headed to Dhoby Gaut station, instead of City Hall station. On the way we had to pass by th newly renovated Cathay House (one of singapore's oldest moviehouse i guess):

and Stefi was delighted to find:

she finds these creatures fabulous as her very own 'Marlin and Nemo'(as she names them):

on the way back, while waiting for the train we recalled the "Monster House." We thought we'd like to share what we felt (we had a BLAST!):

...now that's too early for a holloween 'T or T'

enjoy the school break, while dad and mom enjoys this every moment, for a week:

Here's something for the tennis buff:

The Very Particular Art of the Racket Stringer

“Ivan Lendl was the first player to change rackets at every ball change; he brought a new level of professionalism,’’ says Prokes. “Now, the most professional player? Agassi. He is the new benchmark.’’

Tribute to Andre

You gotta read this for inspiration:

Guess what?

USOpen is back and here are things to look forward to:
- can Andre conclude his playing career with a Slam? don't expect too much...we'll see...
- can Roddick win a slam after a break from injuries, can gf Maria inspire her this time?
- Nadal vs Federer, does this rivalry still exist?
- Martina Hingis, can she still deliver?
- Maria Sharapova vs Kim Klijsters
- Williams sisters, second or third round exit?

A lot more things to watch out for, so sit back, and relax...

Yeah, cheapo beers! First time trying 'em, 3-cans good enough to last till the finals. Let's give these brands a review if they will par enough with:

Inspiration, Retirement, Future Plans???

Everything is set and planned right from the start of 2006. It wasn't a drastic move. It started when people were made to believe he was injured. Fans knew it had affected his game much that he needn't play tours other than grandslam events. Slam after slam: First Aus Open then came French Open, performancewise he still have the shots but it was evident that lasting long games is now his setback and can never be repaired. It made him decide to announce at the Wimbeldon that Us Open will close the curtain to his illustrious tennis career.

That's about Andre, and now what?

Because I like picking inspiration from lots of things, people, events, toys and all sorts. Looking back through the years, some people who inspired me, to name a few were Ben Johnson, Michael Jordan, Frank Gehry, Evelyn (my wife) and Andre Agassi.

So from this retirement thing about Andre, what inspires me is about giving up something you really love doing to make way for better things. It won't be just giving up without getting something in return. Let's enumerate things that can be given up and better things to endeavour (if possible give it a reason) and weigh them by points, high points means really worth doing.

things that i possibly should give up:
- weekday tennis/10, i had given up on this long before to make way for thewoohoos and meshpotatoes.
- the woohoos band/ 10, reason could be the question of me being in a different league. kids are kids, let them play as the saying goes: "show them all the beauty they possess inside, give them a sense of pride"
- mesh potatoes band/ 2, two members who happen to be colleagues are in a political battle. when both of you are able to resolve your differences then mesh can move on. peace bros!
- thursday basketball with VMW colleagues/5, i can play once in a while but not on a regular basis
- saturday tennis/0, no no...i won't give up on this
(above list doesn't mean i have no time for family. i cook, i go tekka market, i babysit and i pregnant mum-sit)

things that i possibly should endeavour (all 10pts, just do it-nothing to lose):
- join the FTC tournament, will need to allot 3weekdays pracitce to get into competitive level, once a week practice if only "for fun" level.
- form "The Generals" band. Been contemplating on this and sure will create havoc in the local music scene. possible members: mike/vox or ronald/vox, allan/lead guitar, allan's bassist/bass, and me/who else. passion, attitude, addiction, they have it all. and grammar is not that important coz they have already mastered the skill of sign language.
- Stefi will be 4 next year. That'd be a good age for her to pick up a sport like tennis or music skill like playing drums. After USOpen, count 10years and the name "Agassi" will create waves again in the tennis circuit by a boy named "Jason Gill Agassi" with his coach Andre. I'm a dreamer yeah, I want Stefi to make waves too. Good if she picks up the interest without pressure from dad (she's showing signs already) haha!
- Standard Chartered marathon come november. this one needs preparation and will need daily jogs, i should be getting a new running shoes soon. Who wants to join?
- Photography, i envy Ramir having much fun and time on this with his EOSD.
- Oil painting, expensive but sure'll be worth it. My colleague just quit his job doing full time painting. He's making shitful of artworks earning 4x his past salary.
- Teach CG part time. Its an offer worth considering, not easy dealing with 'other' kids though.
- Company just announced corporate 'Fitness First' programme. Woohoo thanks! I wanna do yoga this time rather than stuff more beef and make myself look like a frog.
- Bum. my xbox executer2 died on me 6months ago. he may breathe a new life soon.
(whoa the list goes on! i better halt first coz its really urging me to give up a lot of things easily)

marist the global catholic educator.... be proud

just wanna share this as i share the same goosebumps with other fellow alumni:

"PARE, SI ERIK TENGCO ITO UTOL NI ALAIN, KAIBIGAN NAMIN SI TONY G, CHOI, AT
PINSAN NAMIN SILA TAMAYO AT BARKADA SI "CARL MALDEN"...

IT IS SO NICE TO SEE THE MARIST SITE AND FIND A FAMILIAR NAME WHO IS ACTIVE
IN THE ALUMNI ORG.

MERON SANA KAMING GUSTONG I-SHARE NA KWENTO PARA SA LAHAT NG ATING MARIST
BROS. I HOPE THAT SOMEHOW YOU CAN SHARE IT AMONGST THE ALUMNI DURING YOUR
NUMEROUS GATHERINGS, OR POST THIS ON THE BULLETIN BOARD.

THIS HAPPENED ABOUT 12 YEARS AGO, ON THE MORNING THAT CARL (a.k.a. JAIME
VILLANUEVA, ON BIRTH CERTIFICATE) WAS TO TIE THE KNOT WITH HIS FIANCEE
BING. WE HAD COME FROM AN ALL NIGHT STAG PARTY AND WAS SERIOUSLY LATE FOR
THE ALTAR.

NEEDLESS TO SAY, WE WERE FLYING ON THE 405 FREEWAY WHEN WE GOT PULLED OVER
FOR SPEEDING. IT SEEMED LIKE A ROUTINE TRAFFIC STOP AS THE FIRST OFFICER
APPROACHED THE CAR UNTIL THE SECOND OFFICER, WHO HAD CIRCLED AROUND OUR CAR
HAD NOTICED OUR BUMPER STICKER (MERON KASING DALAWANG SCHOOL STICKERS SA
BUMPER NG AUTO--ISANG LA SALLE AT YUNG ISA AY YUNG AD JESVM PER MIRIAM NA
CREST NG MARIST TULAD NG PATCH SA UNIPORME NATIN SA ELEMENTARY)

THIS SECOND OFFICER WHO WOULD INTRODUCE HIMSELF AS OFFICER STEVEN
GUDLEWSKI, (WHOM WE WOULD LATER FIND OUT TO BE A VERY NOTORIOUS AND FAMOUS
OFFICER IN THE LAPD AND HAD EARNED THE MONIKER, "DIRTY HARRY GUDLEWSKI")
PEERED INSIDE THE CAR AND QUICKLY NOTICED THE ROSARY TIED OVER THE REAR
VIEW MIRROR INSIDE THE CAR (IN THE EARLY 90'S THIS WAS EXCLUSIVE TO THE
FILIPINO COMMUNITY IN THE US).

HIS FIRST QUESTION TO US WAS IF WE WERE CATHOLICS WHICH WE HAD QUICKLY
AFFIRMED. MUCH TO OUR DISBELIEF HE THEN ASKED US A QUESTION, THAT UNTIL
TODAY MAKES US FEEL PROUD OF OUR ALMA MATER. APPARENTLY HE RECOGNIZED THE
MARIST STICKER ON THE BUMPER AND HE ASKED US IF IT WAS INDEED A MARIST
SCHOOL STICKER. IT JUST SO HAPPENED THAT OFFICER STEVEN GUDLEWSKI WAS A
PROUD ALUMNUS OF MARIST, NEW JERSEY.

TO PROVE TO US HE WAS FROM MARIST, HIS FIRST INSTINCT WAS TO SHOW US A
ROSARY IN HIS POCKET. WHEN WE TOLD HIM THAT WE WERE ALUMNI OF MARIST
PHILIPPINES WE COMPARED REMINISCENT NOTES ABOUT THE SCHOOL AND IT WAS SO
UNBELIEVABLE TO FIND OUT THAT HE KNEW THE "EVER FOREVER" SONG WORD FOR WORD
WHICH WE SANG IN CHORUS WITH HIM THAT MORNING.

WE ALSO FOUND OUT THAT 10,000 OR SO MILES AWAY FROM MARIKINA, WERE AMERICAN
KIDS WHO WROTE THE "JMJ" ON THEIR 1/4, 1/2 OR WHOLE PIECES OF SCHOOL PAPERS
WHICH THEY SUBMITTED IN CLASS EVERYDAY. STEVE EVEN ADMITS THAT HE USED TO
DRAW THE CROSS IN THE TOPMOST MIDDLE OF EACH PAPER LIKE MOST OF US
OLDTIMERS.

ALL THIS BEING SAID, WE GOT OUT OF THE EXPENSIVE SPEEDING TICKET THAT
MORNING AND EVEN ENDED UP BEING ESCORTED WITH SIRENS AND THE FULL POLICE
NINE YARDS TO CARL'S CHURCH WEDDING. HE AND OFFICER KRAUTZ WERE SO HAPPY TO
ACQUAINT WITH US THAT THEY STAYED UNTIL THE RECEPTION WAS OVER. WE HAVE
KEPT IN TOUCH WITH OUR LAPD MARIST BROTHER AND HAVE WIGGLED OUT OF SEVERAL
CITATIONS AT HIS NAME DROP WITH OTHER LAPD OFFICERS SINCE THEN.

WE HAVE ALL COME FROM PRESTIGIOUS COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES IN MANILA BUT
NEVER HAVE WE FELT PROUD ABOUT THEM SINCE THEY ARE MEANINGLESS AND ARE
NORMALLY FROWNED UPON HERE IN THE US.

HOWEVER, ONE THING FOR SURE WE CAN ALWAYS FIND PRIDE IN BEING MARISTIANS."

The Frog and the Scorpion

A scorpion asks a frog to carry him across a stream. The frog asks:"How do I know you won't sting me?"
"If i do, both of us will drown," replies the scorpion.
The frog agrees. But as they are crossing the stream, the scorpion stings the frog.
"Why did you do that?" asks the frog as they both start to drown.
The scorpion just manages to answer:"Its my nature..."

THE ZEPHYR HAS FINALLY LANDED!

had lunch at lucky plaza (cravings yeah!) then decided to walk around for a while to ease bloatedness (burp). saw a toy store, hopped in and wola...the Zephyr is there..."i'm not gonna pass up, i gotta have this"...anyway, been searching for this for 2yrs already.

and yeah, the RHCP song keeps playing in my mind:

"Can I get your hand to write on
Just a piece of lead to bite on
What am I to fly my kite on
Do you want to flash your light on
Take a look its on display - for you
Coming down no not today

Did you meet your fortune teller
Get it off with no propellor
Do it up it's always stellar
What a way to finally smell her
Pick it up it's not to strong - for you
Take a piece and pass it on

Fly away on my Zephyr
I feel it more then ever
And in this perfect weather
We'll find a place together
Fly on my wing

Riddlin on liberator
Find a way to be a skater
Rev it up to levitator
Super mainly aviator
Take a look its on display - for you
Coming down no not today

Fly away on my Zephyr
I feel it more then ever
And in this perfect weather
We'll find a place together
In the water where the scent of my emotion
All the world will pass me by
Fly away on my Zephyr
We'll find a place together

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa - do you
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa - won't you
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

Fly away on my Zephyr
I feel it more then ever
And in this perfect weather
We'll find a place together

In the water where the scent of my emotion
All the world will pass me by
Fly away on my Zephyr
We're gonna live forever
Forever"

July Birthdays: Part 1 - Woohooees

19th jul, i celebrated my bday at home with a simple dinner prepared by lola and ninang, thanks a many!. stefi created two custom party hats. she actually wanted to make 5 for everyone but ninang convinced her just for her and me will do.

21st jul, cheng (woohoos keyboardist) had a surprise bday cake to blow during our band rehearsal at Tiet's courtesy of Pin. chris' chinese version of 'happy birthday to you' was funny :) no good is your teacher haha!!

sorry cheng, i was thick-faced to borrow your cake. since nobody knew i told them i celebrated my b-day two days ago, so i asked if i could have a photo also haha!!

We headed to j-bar after the practice and guess what, chris (woohoos vocalist) got to jam with george's Jig band. the bar didn't have a full band stage setup unfortonately for the woohoos. we could have jammed that nite, crowd was good. but chris' rendition of Angels was fantastic, crowd showed respect in the end...good sign for the woohoos! after finishing the cake, two hoe's each and loads of peanuts, we decided to go home.

today (28jul) i co-celebrated with Qianling our birthday in the office, had a nice green-tee with redbean and blueberry cake treat by vmw. tks! colleagues for the cheer and greetings!

July Birthdays: Part 2 - Nouville Smashers!

tennister Jay celebrated his birthday (25jul) during our playdate (22jul). the 'nouville smashers' members prepared some local dishes: sinigang na isdang lapad(paul, jun, jay), papaitan and dinuguan(greg). we were supposed to have a bbq but the pit area was booked on that day, too bad. coincidentally was mike son's (gabriel) 1st birthday and so, we had to split the group for a while as the celebrations were held in different units within nouville, concurrently after the games. sure mike's place has more happening (lucky i went), there were some neat ladies belting their fav karaoke tunes then we were later invited to sing along. after rendering a few songs we decided to shift to the other unit for jay's bash. kelvin gave a baileys but unfortunately was expired. it horribly looked like a flaky ice cream without the foul smell as the alcohol overpowers the rotten milk odour :)

SKIPPER ME

Because there are too many things happening recently, don't expect too much from me blogging in each and every detail. I won't announce that just yesterday, Federer defeated Nadal at Wimbledon final in a commanding fashion, that Andre Agassi announced that he'll be retiring after the next grandslam US Open.(Watch or read the news and find out for yourself). I'm not gonna blog about the Gamma ZO Sweet string with 62lbs i just strung on my racquet, that it was soooo comfortable (no shoulder pains) and evidently powerful enough for my game, that out of 4-doubles game i only lost 1, that i managed around 4-5 aces, and that i had no blisters after being out of action for the last 3wks (who cares?). I'm so sick about predictions and that i'm not gonna talk about Italy having overwhelmed France in the World Cup Finals just this morning. Though i might hint that the $150 pot went to the person who bet for France (coz nobody bet for Italy). I'm too busy nowadays so if you are someone whom i know, please think twice before you make a move, unless you wanna help like give me a back rub or something...i will need to mum for a while...but if you wanna know, what's keeping me busy? the answer is: i've been stalking websites of Rock d' Fort official photographers, hunting for Mesh Potatoes gig pics haha!!!(and here's one)...so till then...peace out!

Modelling Stefi

This is my first attempt to character modelling, so help me God.

Front and side references doesn't match (I could have tilted the camera slightly) but is good enough to establish a basic form:
